THE CONTINI BONACOSSI FAMILY AT CAPEZZANA At the beginning of the Twentieth century Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi returned to Italy from Spain with his wife Vittoria and two children Augusto Alessandro and Vittorina. While in Spain he was highly successful in the antique trade and began what was to become one of the largest private collections of paintings, furniture, ceramics and statues. Upon his death, his children Alessandro and Vittorina bequeathed the central part of this exceptional collection to the State. Today the Contini Bonacossi donation is displayed in ten rooms which are part of the Uffizi Gallery, though not directly connected to the main building. Visits are only by appointment.
